A cobra made out of medal with the words Cobra Kai beside it.

Today I will be talking about Cobra Kai! I have been wanting to talk about this for a while!

So setting the scene it takes place in the same universe as the Karate Kid movies starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita.

But enough about them let’s get into my favorite pair in this show:

Johnny Lawrence played by William Zabka (Left), Miguel Diaz played by Xolo Maridueña (Right)

These two! I for one love the story between them and with the final part of season 6 probably coming out in February of 2025 (so I’ve seen tossed around), Johnny has obviously been through the ringer coming out of the Tournament back in 84′ and in the first couple of episodes you really see these moments where Johnny gets pushed to new limits in ways he never would’ve imagined the first being, Training a student from the ground up.

See Miguel is a skinny kid with no friends and is getting bullied constantly and in meeting Lawrence outside some strip mall after he beats up his bullies Miguel wants in to the world of Karate and while Johnny is reluctant at first he eventually caves in and take Miguel in which leads to:

In one of the sweetest revenges I have seen Miguel takes all the lessons taught to him by Sensei Lawrence and applies them in successful self defense against those who bullied him and his friends who would later join him in the dojo leading to another Teacher-student dynamic with Eli or better known as The Hawk:

Now while yes Cobra Kai has it’s moments of cringe and stupidly cliche scenes and sometimes questionable moments, we gotta remember that for a large part of these scenes there are teenagers and if you tell me you weren’t awkward or tried too hard in high school, then I don’t know what to tell you cause I know I sure did, Which is what makes these scenes in season 1 that much more impactful, what I would’ve given to have a sensei Lawrence as a teacher who believed in me and pushed me to be my best self both mentally and physically or a friend like Miguel who always pushed me to be the best version of myself and never gave up on being my friend despite being in opposite ideologies like Miguel and Demetri.

Don’t get me wrong the show has had it’s cringy worthy moments like the infamous Cobra Kai scream that Miguel does or questionable moments such as underaged drinking in the episode where the beach party happens, the scene that does make it for me in this season is:

Final Round of the All Valley Under 18 Tournament, Season 1 Episode 10 (Piece of The Action via Youtube)

Yes I enjoyed the fight. But this is a massive first step in what these two characters would later become in the future seasons. However This showed lots of growth in both the students and the sensei that taught them as Johnny pushes Miguel to be the best he could be and win the All Valley while Daniel gets back into the Karate passed down to him by the great Mr Miyagi in this stunning call back while also bringing in two new faces it was a strong way to end the first season!

With that being said please go watch the show on Netflix and while there are for sure scenes that are bad or cringy or whatever the same can be said for all shows or web series, enjoy the show as it only goes up from the small valley tournament! With that being said I have been Anthony! Till next time!
