Halloween ,The Legend of Michael Myers

One of America’s independent slasher films, Halloween, was made in 1978. Directed and scored by John Carpenter. The movie was based on a real case, such as babysitter Janet Christman and convicted kidnapper Andre Rand. The movie was written in 10 days and filmed in 21 days in southern California.

The film made 70 million dollars with a budget of $300,000 to $320.000, becoming one of the most successful independent films of all time. Mr. Carpenter, by using a dark look, created tension and a score comprised of early synth pads and stubs; John Carpenter created one of the most powerful and creepiest soundtracks of all time. Carpenter uses a technique to make you feel unsteady.

In 1963, Halloween in the town of Haddonfield, Ill. Michael Myers, at the age of 6, slashes his 17-year-old sister and friends. He was taken to a mental institution and locked away for 15 years. Oct.30th,1978, while being transferred for a court date, now a 21-year-old Micheal steals a car and escapes. He returns home, where he looks for his next victims.

Micheal wears the mask to blank out human features, making him an unstoppable evil force. Micheal Myers hasn’t spoken again since the murder of his sister that is part of catatonia, he tricked everyone into thinking he had. In my personal opinion of this film, I would consider it is an excellent slasher film. For first time watchers.

Fun fact: the mask that Myers wears is based off the actor William Shatner’s face from Star Trek
